POSITION OF POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT (PDRA) INTERN

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) Intern in Genomics at the University of Malawi, Department of Biological Sciences. Applicants must have PhD in Molecular Biology/Genetics, preferably with Post-doctoral experience.

The following are the Terms of Reference (TORs) for a PDRA/Intern in the Biological Sciences Department Genomics Laboratory, supported by CRAFS. The PDRA/Intern rank will be at a rank equivalent to Lecturer entry with a PhD.

1. To complete setting up the genomics lab in accordance with the required standards and protocols of eDNA labs.

2. Roll out and publish eDNA pathways and protocols for use in the lab.

3. Identify and facilitate lab reagents and equipment procurement.

4. Facilitate day-to-day running of the genomics lab in adherence to set standards and protocols.

5. Run the ISEQ in accordance with the supplier’s (ILLUMINA) requirements and procedures.

6. Orient CRAFS PG students on the use of the genomics lab for generation of sequencing data using ISEQ platform.

7. Assist and train CRAFS PG students and other staff in DNA sequencing data collection using next-generation sequencing platform ISEQ.

8. Orient academic staff on the use of the ISEQ platform for sequencing data generation and other related capabilities.

9. Train biological sciences departmental technicians on standards and protocols of the genomics lab and the use of the ISEQ platform for sequencing data generation.

10. Keep the ISEQ software updated in accordance with supplier’ (ILLUMINA) standards and requirements.

Conduct research using the ISEQ platform for data collection.

11. Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
