Profile

Education and Early Childhood Development expert committed to children’s growth and development, and the realization of their rights including education. Foster Kholowa is a Senior Lecturer in Language and Literacy Education in the School of Education at the University of Malawi. He holds a PhD in Education (early literacy development) at the University of Malawi and University of Sussex in the UK. He did his Bachelor of Education at the University of Malawi (Chancellor College) and an MA in Education and Professional Development at the University of East Anglia in the UK. He later did a PhD in Education (early literacy development) at the University of Malawi and University of Sussex in the UK. Additionally, Foster Kholowa did a postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Professional Studies in Primary Education at the University of Strathclyde (Scotland, UK). He has further studied and specialized in Early Childhood Development through the Early Childhood Virtual University (ECDVU) at the University of Victoria in Canada. Over the years, Foster Kholowa has a played an active role in both Education and Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Malawi in terms of research, policy development, curriculum/materials development and capacity building of education and ECD practitioners at various levels. Furthermore, He has been both team leader and team member for various basic research and commissioned research studies by Government, Development Partners and the wider Civil Society organizations in and outside Malawi. He has successfully supervised and examined many postgraduate students over the years as part of his research experience. Some of the organizations and Government Ministries he has worked with in related work include: World Bank, UNICEF, USAID, WFP, FAO, Save the Children, Firelight Foundation (USA), GIZ, World Vision International, Plan International, Concern Universal, UNDP, DFID, Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), Icelandic International Development Assistance (ICEIDA), Roger Federer Foundation (RFF), Catholic Relief Services, LUANAR, Ministry of Gender, Children Disability and Social Welfare (MoGCDSW), Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) and Irish Aid.
