Senior/Chief Technician in Ceramics

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the post of Technician in Ceramics tenable at Chancellor College of the University of Malawi.

Applicants must be holders of at least a diploma in Ceramics, Fine Arts, Pottery or any related field. In addition, applicants must have adequate experience in industrial ceramics productions, processes and entrepreneurship at a recognized institution. The applicants must further demonstrate knowledge of working on the potter’s wheel, kiln and ability to handle raw material processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities.

 

The Technician’s key duties shall include but not limited to the following:-

  • Maintaining operational inventory within the budget in consultation with the Head of Section
  • Overseeing daily operations and general cleanliness of the ceramics studio and facilities

  • Managing studio processes, practice regulations and ensuring compliance with policies and industrial safety procedures

  • Managing and overseeing student firing schedules while adhering to working-days’ time frames

  • Taking inventory of tools, equipment and materials, and their requisition

  • Carrying out clay body preparation, glaze formulation and ensuring availability of required material to lecturers, students and visiting artists

  • Providing necessary technical assistance relating to teaching and student projects

  • Undertaking maintenance and general repairs of all equipment and accessories in conjunction with the Maintenance Department

  • Participating in the Departments income generating activities and exhibitions
