University of Malawi and University of Rwanda, entered into partnership, recognizing the mutual interests in the fields of curriculum development, teaching, research, mentorship, internship and facilitation of much needed transfer of the most modern technology in the Internet of Things (IoT).

The partnership will among other things include dissemination of knowledge on a long term non-commercial basis. Aware of the importance of the universities’ role in the promotion of international collaboration, equality and increased contribution to the development of society; University of Malawi through Chancellor College, Faculty of Science and University of Rwanda through College of Science and Technology, School of ICT signed an MoU on the World Bank supported project effective January, 2017 for the establishment of the African Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT), in which both the partners would be involved to have an impact in the East and South African region surrounding them respectively, to solve common societal problems.

The Africa Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) is established at the University of Rwanda (UR), College of Science and Technology with financial support from the World Bank ACE II project. UR-ACEIoT aims to train a critical mass of African Scientists and Engineers in the field of IoT through Higher Education and Research. This provides a great opportunity for African students to enroll in multidisciplinary post-graduate programs in the field of IoT. ACEIoT will build on UR’s existing collaborations with the local and international partners, including Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda, and the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Italy. This ensures that the training will be conducted by a truly global faculty.
